Career change at 50 and beyond starts with an analysis of your skills. Make a list. Equate your skills with your accomplishments.

What skills have you picked up in your career, and even skills picked up outside of work. The question to ask is what skills are needed in your new career? Is there a crossover? Think big. You’d be surprised how careers in different fields require similar skills. What are your core talents? What are your unique skills? What abilities would others say you have? Combine this with your interests and you have a winning mix in finding that new career at 50.

Effectively managing people goes across many career fields. Likewise, working well with others, budgeting, steep learning curve, a problem solving idea person are all skills that cross into many careers.

Changing careers at 50 requires that you recognize these skills and talents and work hard to communicate this critical information in all you do in finding and getting the right job in your planned new career. A new career at 50 can be an exciting time if you do your homework, build a robust career plan, and remain flexible and patient.
